EP Review: 'Faith' by Think Tank

Hey guys!

It usually always makes my day when I receive a physical copy of great music in my post box. There was one band who decided to give me some candy (just like I suggest on the contact page) and that just made my week. So before I start the review - massive thanks to the kind person who sent the EP + the candy. You're a hero!
Now to the business part:

Band: Think Tank
Title: Faith
Genre: Alternative
Label: independent
Release: 1st June 2014
hits rating: 7/10

The alternative band Think Tank from Birmingham, UK released the first of three mini-EPs. This first one is called 'Faith' and it will be followed by 'Hope' and 'Love', inspired by the 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verse 13 of the bible.
I would love you to read the article Roderick wrote about the release concept.

In the band are:
Roderick Masih (guitar, vocals)
Collin Wallace (percussion)
Joanna Karselis (violin)

Let's talk about the EP now, shall we?

1) Plans
2) Why
3) Fear (acoustic version)

Track one of the EP, 'Plans' gets you familiar with the band's signature style; the acoustic alternative sound complimentary vocals and guitar riffs, atmospheric violin chords and a soft, supportive bass line.
There's a slightly mysterious twist to the song which brings it to live and makes it interesting.

'Why' convinces with its super interesting arrangements; the singer's soft vocals collide with the melodic acoustic guitar. Soft percussions and the emotinal violin add a lot of depth, the bass gives it the needed grip. The instrumentals create such soft atmosphere which gets even more vulnerable the more you listen to it.

Bonus track 'Fear' is a real jewel. As an acoustic song it's stripped down to the original base and wins you over with a slightly catchy hook thanks to its melodic arragentment. It even gets a bit more up beat and more energetic towards the end.

To sum it up: I had to listen to the EP a few times to get completely used to the band's unique sound as it is quite soft - it's never lifeless or monotonous though. I think with the next two releases coming up, we're in for a treat.

You should listen to these tracks: Why, Fear
