Update: cry hard, dance harder

Hey guys!

The last time I felt the need to write a Paramore themed update
it was because things were tough and it all felt very dark and lost.

I was at a point, where I felt like I had been wasting away and I could practically feel my creativity slipping through my fingers.

I still remember that time vividly - and I remember how terrible and scary it all felt.

It was about three months ago and after I had written that update, it felt like I had unclogged the creative sink (or toilet - both seems appropriate) and things started to flow again.

That was when I learned that sometimes admitting your current situation and "owning" your struggles, is the only way to turn the situation around.

It's a heavy thing to say, but not being able to produce as much content and not feeling passionate about it - those emotions really messed me up. I didn't feel like myself.

Within the past three months, house in the sand has gone from "bleh" to "we can and we will do this" - and all just because I kicked my own butt, after I let myself be a mess.

"cry hard, dance harder"

This is where the post got its' inspiration from - a quote that has been strongly connected to Paramore's most recent album, "After Laughter".
The album deals with dark times, hard times, lost times and has become a relatable source of inspiration for me.

So I guess, what I'm saying is - if you feel like crying, cry hard.
Let it all out, let yourself feel the sadness, get it out of the system. Bottling it up only means that you'll have to carry it with you - and that it only takes a short rain storm for the bottle to overflow all over again.

If you cry hard and empty the bottle of sadness, you'll be able to re-start.
Yeah - the bottle is eventually going to fill itself again - that's life.
But you'll be able to watch it fill up without having to worry about immediate break downs, because there's still plenty of space in the bottle.

And once you've cry hard - dance harder.

When you get to the point of feeling motivated, happy and determined - dance as hard as you can.
Milk it out.
You're on a high, so make the most of it.
If you've been lacking motivation and it has returned - become that working maniac and give it your all.
If you've been feeling sad and somehow happiness came back - celebrate it in any way you can and want to.

You deserve to dance, so dance harder than you ever have.

You see, what I'm trying to say with this post is - yes, house in the sand is on a roll again- and hell it feels good.
We have changed a lot of things "behind the scenes" and have adjusted to the pace of the industry.
August and September were the best months of the year so far, but we are more than sure that October, November and December hold huge things for us.

If you are ready to discover some fine music and get to know that acts behind it,
we invite you to visit us regularly.

why likes and followers matter

Hey guys!

What a headline.
To be honest, I never thought I would be the person to write a post telling you "why likes and followers matter".

Yet here I am, about to tell you.
If you are shaking your head in disbelief, or are about to call me 'shallow', please hear me out.
I can back this up.

So - why do likes and followers matter?

Isn't everybody laughing about those people who want +256 likes for their selfies?
Or who think they are famous because they have +472  followers?
Doesn't that all sound super ridiculous?

It probably does.

But when it comes to the business side of things,
it's anything but ridiculous.
In fact, it's one of the most important aspects.

Why?
Because likes don't just say "oh nice selfie, you've got a good face - here's a thumb!" when you use social media for work.
No, they can actually determine one's career.
Hell, even one's income.

I have a feeling that those of you, who work in or with Social Media, are probably already nodding their heads.

And if you don't get what I'm talking about - good for you, you're probably leading a normal life.

But let me explain by giving you my personal example.

I run a music website.
And in order to collaborate with the artists we see featured on this website, there are three important factors:
1) my skills: of course, just like in any other job, you need to have a set of skills in order to get the attention of those people you may want to work with.
2) my audience: a lot of the times when I request to interview an artist/a band, the labels and managements behind the musicians want to know how many people visit my website.
3) my social media statistics: those labels, promoters and managements are also interested in the numbers and interactions we have on Twitter, Facebook and all the other platforms.

When I first started working in music, the only numbers that mattered were the views and visits on a website.
But with Social Media being such a huge part in our everyday lives, the amounts of likes and followers keep getting more important day by day.

So why do likes and followers matter to me?
Because those numbers paired with my skills decide whom I get to work with.

And why should you care, you might ask?
Well, you don't have to care. It's probably only really my problem.
But, if you enjoy this website and maybe came across music you now listen to in your free time,
then this might matter to you.
If you want us to continue to grow - we need likes and followers.
If we grow, you'll benefit from it because you'll get to watch interviews with some of the biggest acts around.
If only a handful of people cared about house in the sand, I would've never been able to chat to Olly Murs or photograph Ed Sheeran
But, because there is a bigger interest in this page, we get to do and share these cool things with you.

So how can you make a difference?
By following those on Social Media, who deliver content you enjoy.
By clicking the "like" or "thumbs up" button when they post something.
By commenting, retweeting or subscribing.

Those actions don't cost you anything and it usually takes less than five seconds to do them.
So be a hero and like, follow and comment.
This counts for all creators on Social Media such as musicians, photographers, videographers and PR agencies. Not just for us bloggers.

I hope this post has been either relatable (because you "know the struggle") or interesting (because maybe you have never thought about the importance of a "silly like").
Either way, I hope you enjoyed reading this and might consider hitting that like button some more.

Of course I would absolutely love to hear your opinion on this and I'd also be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Just because it makes sense, here are our social media links. ;)
You can follow, like or just lurk - either way, we appreciate your time.

Access All Areas: Hyena on tour

Hey guys!

I remember the first time I got one of the well known "AAA" passes.
AAA is the cool sounding short form of "Access All Areas" - it means you can go wherever you please at a gig.

The first time I got to do that was at a Martin and James gig where I got to photograph soundcheck, film backstage and then go on stage to photograph the band.
It all felt super special and new back then.

Nowadays I get to do that very often and also have "earned" many AAA's by being a member of the band's crew.

Because I like sharing experiences (not food, though), I've created the "Access All Areas" feature, where I share some impressions of the gigs.

Previous AAAs: Ciaran Lavery & Tommy Reilly | Chris Pate | Hudson Taylor

Last month I spent a few days with the talented dudes of Hyena.

The Alt-Rock trio just got back from their first tour through Germany & Switzerland.
With gripping rhythms, powerful vocals and a lot of energy, the band from Liverpool, UK is taking over by storm and has already made it very clear that they belong on stage.

Hyena are:
Chris Pate (vocals, guitar)
Daz Mangan (bass)
Adam Rooney (drums, cajon)

Last month the band played at the best venue in Germany - Riffelhof in Burgrieden.
On their way to the venue, they picked me up and stuffed me into the car.

Now, get ready to jump into the car with us and take a look behind the scenes.

You'll find photos from the car journey, the backstage area, the room I got to stay in, and of course, photos from the show.

Enjoy!

Access All Areas: Chris Pate at Riffelhof, Burgrieden

Hey guys!

Every now and then I get a message of Chris Pate saying something along the lines of "Yo! I've got a gig. Let's travel."

Pretty much everytime I end up fixing the guest bedroom and arranging lifts and train rides.

I love travelling and it's pretty obvious that I love music, therefore I always enjoy being able to do things like that.

This time Chris got asked to support Purpendicular (a Deep Purple tribute band) ft. Ian Paice (Deep Purple's drummer) at Riffelhof, Burgrieden (GER).
Instead of just sharing the gig photos with you, I've decided to do another "Access All Areas" feature where you get the chance to sort of travel with us.

Who is Chris Pate?
His friends will introduce him as a “music making mad man”, his fans will tell you how incredible his music is and critics will point out what Chris Pate stands for: honest, storytelling and often critical lyrics, expressive and dominant vocals and controlling instrumentals.

Chris Pate is that kind of musician who will walk into a room, spot a guitar and immediately pick it up to jam away.

He’s passionate and has always been; the musician started playing the guitar at the age of 14, with Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are’ being the first song the left handed guitarist learnt to play.

Besides Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and Oasis, Chris’ music is influenced by a wide range of acts. Growing up in the Liverpool area, Pate proves one stereo type: the love for the Beatles.

Knowing that Chris Pate has been into music for many years now, it won’t surprise you when you find out that eight years of his music life were spent as front man of Liverpool based rock band The Arkanes. Together with his band mates, Chris regularly toured Germany, Switzerland and Austria building a loyal fan base by putting on energetic live shows.

The band broke up in Summer 2015, but Chris never lost his passion for music.
So now he's writing, recording and touring pretty much all the time.

Below are (probably far too many) impressions from the little travel and music weekend.
I hope you enjoy!

19th March: After being stuck in traffic for what felt like a century, we got to my place and made vegan burgers with sweet potato fries. (#yum)

20th March: Off to Burgrieden in full "manager mode". (No, those beer bottles did not belong to us.)

20th March: The train journey took longer than expected which was alright since I got to listen to some new songs. Dear CP fans, you're in a for a treat!

20th March: Soundcheck at Riffelhof, our home away from home.

20th March: After soundcheck we filmed two performances which will be online soon, so subscribe to HITS on YouTube to get a notification once we post something.

20th March: Show time!

Whenever I see Chris on stage, I remember why about four years ago, The Arkanes won me over with their fantastic music.

His solo music has the same quality and therefore it's no surprise that he's still kicking ass on stage.
Chris knows how to control a crowd and how to present his music in a suitable way.

20th March: Chris' view on stage.

20th/21st March: My good friend Katy came down and basically saved the merch desk from a crisis.
We owe you big time, dear!

21st March: When the lad takes a selfie whilst you're trying to have breakfast...

21st March: My mum came to pick us up, so this selfie is very necessary.

And that's it!
I hope you enjoyed this insightful post and felt like you were a part of the fun.

At this point we'd like to say a massive thank you to the Riffelhof team for taking care of us and for inviting us over. Can't wait to be back in May!

And of course, I want to say thanks to Chris for taking me along on those adventures, it's always fun to travel with you. I might make fun of you all the time, but I'm really proud of you for doing what you love the most.
