Behind The Song: "Wolf" by Boy Epic

Hey guys!

We have to be honest here,
we're still catching up on music from last year.

2017 was filled with great releases and has seen the light of some of our favourite records.
But we're not done yet discovering all the gems the year had in store.

But don't worry, we're still keeping an eye on everything that's happening this very moment.

But let's continue finding those tracks we probably should've been listening to for a while.

- Behind The Song -
"Wolf" by Boy Epic

Boy Epic is a musician from Dallas, Texas (US).
To describe his sound you would use the words "noir pop", but you'll definitely find elements of other genres here and there.

He centers his music around synesthesia, the state of consciousness where visuals fill the mind as a person listens to music.

Boy Epic finds inspiration in movies such as Fifty Shades Of Grey and Suicide Squad.
His song "Fifty Shades", which was inspired by Fifty Shades Of Grey, has reached over 12 million views on YouTube.

He is known for his expressive and cinematic music videos which are a huge part of his creative process, which is why you'll often find his name in the directing credits.

Signed to Hollywood Records, Boy Epic is currently writing and recording.

We're excited to have Boy Epic chat us through his latest single today.
In this post you'll find out what inspired the song, what the recording process was like and how you can compare the track to his previous releases.

Check out what Boy Epic has to say about "Wolf":

"I knew I wanted to write a song about ego, selfishness and insecurities.
Sometimes it's hard to write about our flaws as a society, but with this song I wanted to pull back the curtains and be real with my audience. "Wolf" as a deep dive into my subconscious and I am very proud.

Going into it, I knew I wanted to express the darkness, not only lyrically, but also digitally. I remember going to Cut Down Trees and saying, "Let's fuck up my voice for this one", and it led to us having a lot of fun in the studio.
As we started playing around with things, I immediately fell in love with the low undertone on my voice that we created on the chorus. It really just fit the mood I wanted to portray and is definitely a sound I plan on using a lot more in the future.

Looking back on "Wolf" in comparison to my earlier material, this song seemed to fit in perfectly. It was just as if it was just an idea I hadn't gotten to yet. Songs like "Wolf" make me excited for the future of my music. I am going to keep evolving and growing my sound, but at the same time keep my ideas intact and honest."
