Keeva is a singer/songwriter based in London, UK.

The half-Jordanian, half-Irish musician grew up with Soul and Country classics around her and has managed to soak up all the great elements, honed her craft and found her bluesy signature sound.

In the past Keeva wrote, recorded and played multiple shows and festivals.
Her hauntingly beautiful melodies, expressive vocals and relatable lyrics have enough power to grab your attention for good.

With a solid online following and support from music critics, her first release "Whiskey" was well received.

"Whiskey" is a heartbreakingly beautiful ballad which will tug on your heartstrings for sure.
The emotion and realness of the track highlight Keeva's talent for writing personal, yet relatable songs.
The simple instrumentation is anything but shallow; it supports the track with such grace and allows you to feel all the feels.

Behind The Song: "Wrong Time" by Keeva

NEW SEGMENT ALLERT!

You all know that house in the sand aspires to be more than just a norma music blog.
We want to bring the readers closer to the artists - and the artists closer to the readers.

We're always working on new content and new segments to make this website even cozier and more personal.
And I'm very happy to present you a new feature today, which I decided to name "Behind The Song".

Whenever you see that title pop out, expect a personal piece written by the artist/the band who wrote said song.

This feature will be kicked off by one of HITS' favourites, Keeva.

The singer/songwriter from London, UK has an incredibly warm and souly voice and of course, a brilliant writing style.

Her sound can be described as Acoustic, Folk mixed with Soul.

Besides her being an up and coming artist herself she has also co-written with some hit makers from the US and the UK.

  Keeva has received support from BBC Radio 2 presenters Simon Mayo and Bob Harris who have featured her music on their shows.

"Wrong Time" was written in a time of my life where I met someone who ticked all the relevant boxes but I wasn't ready to commit to a possible heartbreak again. It's almost an apology to the great guy I let down. 

 I wrote the song in about 40 minutes, refining the bridge a few days later. 

Sat on my bedroom floor on New Years Day at around 3pm. Honestly, it was one of those rare moments in which I can't remember writing it - all the words came out quite fluidly and I said everything I needed to say in a few minutes (best feeling ever) I quickly recorded a voice memo of it and sent it to the people who's opinions I respect the most (they all seemed to like it, yay).

The video shoot was a lot of fun, shot in my favourite venue The Tooting Tram and Social alongside my friends Simon Waldock, Tom Clarke and the fab Harry Hudson-Taylor on guitar.

 I wanted to create something which seemed classic and as if it was from the 60s and I think Simon really captured that. "Wrong Time" is one of my most honest songs and I'm delighted to be able to share it with others.

Song Of The Day: "Desired Plan" by Keeva

Hey guys!

I'll admit it, I often get a bit confused by my music taste.
Yeah, I really do. Sometimes all I need to listen to is a loud rock song with tons of elements like a brilliant guitar riff, raspy vocals, a strong bassline and a killer drum beat.
And then in other moments I prefer a calm acoustic track which wins me over with it's simplicity.

I guess maybe it's the offer of variety which lets you enjoy a bit of everything.
It's a privilege to have access to so many different genres and I think it's only right to make the most of it.

Today though, I'm feeling like a good cup of gorgeous simplicity is what I need. Why make things complicated and crowded when simple and straight forward can be enough?

"Melodies inspired by George Ezra. Emotion inspired by John Mayer. Sass inspired by Kacey Musgraves. Lyrics inspired by my life.", that's how Keeva describes her music.

With influences like that her sound could be classified as acoustic-pop/folk.

The musician's new song "Desired Plan" greets you in the charming Keeva manner; soft electric-guitar work combined with her soulful and warm voice.

  It's also the vocals that lead you through the track; Keeva on the lead performing in a strong, yet somehow soft style accompanied by light and cleverly used backing vocals.

The guitar picking turns into light strumming after the first chorus which is also when the saxophone joins in. 

Towards the end the saxophone and guitar break into a little instrumental, just before the vocals break into the last bit of the song - acapella. Me oh my!

I can only encourage you to listen to this gorgeous song, you'll fall in love with it!

EP Review: 'One Take Recordings' by Keeva

If you have been reading the blog for a while, you probably know that I'm crazy about live music. 

Hearing an artist live is the most honest way to experience a song. 

Today I'm going to review the 'One Take Recordings' by Keeva. As the title gives it away - all songs have been recorded live in one take.

Opener 'Louisa' already represents Keeva at her finest; atmospheric guitar work, controlling vocals - the simplicity of the moment. Her voice is smooth, souly, warm and you just feel like you can't get enough of it.

I can't help but be reminded of John Mayer's live version of 'Daughters' when I hear 'The Drive'. And I don't mean that Keeva copied it somehow. No, this lady has her very own sound and she should hold onto it because it's brilliant.

The support of a male backing vocalist adds more depth to the song. Beautiful arrangements compliment the atmosphere and give it a lot more grip and intensity.

'Screw You' in one word? Sassy! Oh hell yes. The upbeat track marches into the pop music direction but is still bluesy enough to be enjoyed by all "pop music critics". Supported by powerful guitar chords Keeva's performance is on point. Anger, energy, carelessness - all those feelings rush through me when I listen to the lyrics. We all know that one person we can dedicate a 'Screw You' to, don't we?

 To sum it up: Melancholy meets sass. It's seems like there's nothing Keeva could not make us feel. Her voice is the highlight, no doubt. But her compositions deserve just as much attention. We want more!
