Video Interview: Jack Garratt

Hey guys!

I've recently had a little period of time for myself which I spent reflecting on my work, planning things for my future work, etc.
The main thing I adore about running a website myself, is the fact that I get to work independently which means I can decide which artist I want to feature.

The fact that I also get to work with the acts I really want to work with, is very great.
Jack Garratt has been on my playlist for a good few months and I knew I had to have a chat with him at some point.
Just a couple of days ago, we made it happen.

Jack Garratt is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter based in London, UK.
The musician who grew up in Buckinghamshire, UK started making music, or "noises" as he calls it himself, at a very young age.

With a talent not too many people have, Jack manages to combine multiple genres and creates a sound which is mix of electronic beats, dirty e-guitar riffs, jazzy piano parts and a voice that's just a varying as the instrumentals; ranging from a warm, deep voice to a brilliant falsetto, to moments where nothing is raspier than Garratt's voice.

So far he released three EPs:
Remnants (2014)
Remnix (2014)
Synthesiac (2015)

And earlier this year, Jack Garratt celebrated the release of his debut record, "Phase".

His skills and sounds received the BBC Sound Of 2016 award, as well as the Critics Choice Award at the Brit Awards 2015.

Before he played his sold out show in Munich (review and photos will be online soon!), I had a little chat with the talented and super lovely musician.

We spoke about his gear, surprising yourself, his very beautiful song "My House Is Your Home", polaroid photography. We also played the "Song Title Challenge" which he nailed.

Enjoy!

With special thanks to Universal Germany for organising the interview and Jack Garratt for the lovely chat.

Video Interview: Gavin James

Hey guys!

Before you read this post, I'd like to set the scene.
Imagine being in the studio for 18 hours, then going to bed for 2,5 hours.
Then do another 19 hours session in the studio, then go to bed for another 2,5 hours.

And finally, head out to film an interview with Gavin James!

Well, that's exactly what my schedule looked like when I was in Berlin.
It's a bit crazy but to be honest, that's how I like it.

Just like this work trip to Berlin was a bit of a blur for me,
Gavin James' career has taken off within the last year and must have turned into a bit of a blur for him.

Gavin James is a singer/songwriter from Dublin, Ireland.
The young musician discovered his love for music during his time at school and hasn't stopped ever since.

He's come a long way since then and has probably lost count on the many gigs he's played this far.
Let's mention some highlights though; Gavin supported his friend Ed Sheeran at Dublin's Croke Park, he spent the summer touring with Sam Smith and opened the show for Taylor Swift at Hyde Park.

What makes Gavin's music stand out is the way he combines honest and thoughtful lyrics with gorgeously enchanting melodies.
The clever arrangements showcase the singer's voice in a very flattering way.

But to be honest, with his voice even the world's most boring song would sound great.

As we sat down, we had a little chat about live crowds, playing new songs to his dad, Gavin's dream festival lineup and a lot more.

Enjoy!

Listen to Gavin's beautiful performance of his song "Nervous", filmed by Christian Tierney.

I'd like to say a big thank you to Peter for arranging the interview,
to Monika for the super lovely chat and coffee
and of course to Gavin for the wonderfully entertaining interview!
What a pleasure!

Thank you for your visit!

Video Interview: Kodaline

Hey guys!

I don't think I'll ever find words to describe how much I love creating content for this website.
I get to do so many different things, work on so many different features and own a little space of web filled with things I love.

As cheesy as it may sound, meeting people and working with them face to face has to be my favourite part.
Yesterday I got to meet Kodaline, a fantastic band. We sat down in their dressing room and had a little chat.

Kodaline are a four piece band from Dublin, Ireland. Genre-wise they walk on the fine line between alternative and folk-rock
Singer Steve and guitarist Mark have known each other from school. Meeting drummer Vinny and former bassist Conor a few years later led them to start out as a band. As "21 Demands" the quartet was part of the Irish talent show "You're A Star" and came in second.
After a busy time and a chart hit, things slowed down.

With a new bassist and a new band name - Kodaline was born. Their first selftitled EP brought out their song "All I Want" which found a lot of positive feedback, especially online. Soon that song was played on the TV series Grey's Anatomie and The Vampire Diaries.
In 2013 the press re-discovered the band and predicted big times for the Irish lads.

Kodaline are:
Steve Garrigan (lead vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar)
Mark Prendergast (lead guitar, backing vocals, keyboards)
Vinny May (drums, percussion, backing vocals)
Jason Boland (bass, backing vocals)

And those big times kicked in for the guys; their 2015 has been a proper whirlwind so far - a successful album release, loads of festivals, touring, announcing massive concerts, performing with Ed Sheeran in front of 80000 people.
The list goes on.

With so many things happening, we had quite a lot to speak about.

Watch what the guys have to say about their new music video, writing diaries, Michael Jackson.
We also played a game and learned a lot more about the band!

Many thanks to everyone at Sony Music Germany who made this interview happen, you are champions!

And of course, a big thank you to Jay, Mark, Vinny and Steve for being absolutely lovely and respectful, it was a pleasure!

Video Interview: The Arkanes

Hey guys!

If you've been around for a while you have probably already noticed that you've read today's headline before.
Back in April I already video interviewed The Arkanes for you. Since then the band had a lineup change, released their debut album, went on several tours and filmed another music video.

The rock band from Liverpool, UK seems to be taking over the world step by step. Their debut album "W.A.R" did very well, especially over here in Germany where first single "Sharpshooter" got radio plays and even made its way into the rock music top 20!

The Arkanes are:
Chris Pate (lead vocals, guitar)
Dylan Cassin (backing vocals, lead guitar)
Andy Long (drums)
Jake Hallam (backing vocals, bass)

Watch the interview we taped just before their gig in Berlin now and find out more about their tour essentials, stalkers, new songs and a lot more!
