Podcasts We Love: George Ezra & Friends

Hey guys!

We live in this exciting age in which we have so much technology, offering us so many different outlets for our thoughts and stories.

Not too long ago, the world of podcasts became a rather mainstream activity and we've all jumped onto the bandwagon.

Podcasts allow us to either listen to something entertaining or even informative, all while we still get to do whichever tasks we might need to fulfill.

Personally, I love listening to podcasts when I'm either walking to a certain destination or am actually travelling to places. There's something so practical about popping your headphones in and being able to learn new things while you're doing rather boring tasks.
It allows you to make the most of your time and can help you grow as a person.

Now, whether you actually want to learn something from the podcast, or are just looking for some distraction - there's gonna be the right podcast for you somewhere.

And with this little "Podcasts We Love" series, I would like to introduce you to the podcasts I listen to on a regular basis.
Not all of them are going to be music related - which I hope is okay for you, but for the sake of the first part of this series, we're focusing on a music podcast.

Podcasts We Love: George Ezra & Friends

Just recently we've reviewed George's second (and rather brand new) record, "Staying At Tamara's".
In case you want to read it, you can do that here - but if you'd rather just know what we thought, well, we loved the album.

A little before the album release, we actually learned about George's podcast and felt the urge to check it out.

It's a podcast in which George chats to his music friends varying from people like Ed Sheeran,
Hannah Reid from London Grammar, Craig David and a lot more.

It's basically a conversation between to people who talk about what it's like to be in the music industry, their personal experiences, tips and tricks and depending on the episode the topics get deeper and cover anxiety and mental health.

What's incredibly commandable is how absolutely relaxed and laid back the conversations are each time. They are insightful but on a very down to earth level, making each episode a joy to listen to.

I'd say that this podcast is for everyone, not just industry people.
If you're a music fan or just interested in how a musician's brain works, George and his guests will teach you a lot.
But it's not all musical terms or recording strategies - no, it's very understandable for everyone.

Here's what George says about the podcast:

"Had it not been for the introduction of podcasts into my life, my second album could well have been ready six months sooner. Who knows, maybe even seven. The world of podcasts has been an extremely welcome and comforting distraction from reality. Listening to interesting people talk to other interesting people about interesting things. New ideas, old ideas, thinkers and dreamers.

A lot of the shows I enjoy are comedians talking to other comedians, candid accounts of their experiences in the industry they work in. I find them inspiring and often relieving. To hear entertainers, talk so openly about the highs and the lows of performance feels like something that hasn’t really happened before and, personally, as a performer, it’s something that really helps me.

I began looking for musical equivalents: honest, long form conversations between two musicians, the unquestionable highs of creating and performing, alongside honesty regarding things they have struggled with along the way. At the time of digging, nothing jumped out at me. I sat on the idea for some time before finally plucking up the courage to try and do it myself and went out and purchased the gear necessary for me to travel and record at the drop of a hat.

So far it has been better than I could have ever imagined. I travel to my guests wherever they may be and it is just the two of us in the room. After the initial ten minutes of chat we both loosen up and start to share stories and experiences from our time on the road.

What started as a labour of love and somewhat of a passion project is shaping up to be one of the best and fulfilling projects I’ve ever been a part of. I hope you find it as interesting and fun to listen to, as it was to make."

Album Review: "Staying At Tamara's" by George Ezra

Hey guys!

Writing reviews is usually a very calm activity.

You sit down, you listen to the music, you write down notes and once you feel confident in your knowledge of the album - you start writing.

But every now and then you'll be given records (or songs) to review that turn this calm activity into a dance workout.
And that's what George Ezra's brand new record did to us.

But don't get me wrong, it's not just one blurry dance party, there are some emotional moments too - and that mixture made it an absolute joy to review.

Curious and want to join the dance marathon?
Let's do it then!

Artist: George Ezra
Title: Staying At Tamara's
Genre: Soul-Pop
Label: Sony Music
Release Date: 23rd March 2018

George Ezra is a singer/songwriter from Bristol, UK.
His sound mixes Blues with Soul-Pop and Acoustic-Folk here and there.

George studied at the Institute of Modern Music in Bristol and has been making music for a while.

In 2012, he played BBC Introducing, after his song "Angry Hill" was picked by BBC Bristol.
In 2013, George played at Glastonbury and released his debut EP "Did You Hear The Rain?" on which you can find his mega hit "Budapest".

Another EP ("Cassy O'", 2014) and a debut album ("Wanted On Voyage", 2014) later, George Ezra had made himself a name and was considered one of the most exciting newcomers.

Last year he give us a preview of the new album with his anthem "Don't Matter Now", which - along with his second single "Paradise", can be found on the brand new record,  "Staying At Tamara's".

Let's get to know the new album!

Tracklist:
1) Pretty Shining People
2) Don't Matter Now
3) Get Away
4) Shotgun
5) Paradise
6) All My Love
7) Sugarcoat
8) Hold My Girl
9) Saviour (feat. First Aid Kit)
10) Only a Human
11) The Beautiful Dream

Opener "Pretty Shining People" is what I imagine sunshine sounds like.
Now, lyrically, it deals with the darker moments one might have until the chorus kicks in and fills you with hope and understanding.
Musically, the light instrumentation and the chanting backing vocals immediately transport you right into Spring and allow you to find comfort in the relatable lyrics.

My personal favourite would be "Shotgun", an uptempo and uplifting track.
It starts of simple and almost Blues-y, but quickly devolopes into one of those songs that make your head bob along to the beat.
The bassline and guitar riff couldn't be more addictive and practically lift your mood and allow you to dream of the warmer months.
George's vocals guide you through the track and tell you the story in such entertaining and charming manner.

The first half of the album appears to be the upbeat half, whilst the second set of songs pulls you deeper into your thoughts.
"Saviour" which features backing vocals from First Aid Kit, definitely showcases the darker and more serious elements.
With George's and First Aid Kit's vocals colliding, you get a mysterious, powerful and hypnotizing mixture which has so much control of the track and its' atmosphere. Combined with strong drum beats and dark riffs, this one is as intense and brilliant as it could be.

To sum it up: Let's be real - George's voice is an absolute highlight. It's deep and expressive, yet refreshing and charming at the same time. But when writing about George's music, you just have to mention his talent for melodies, harmonies and arragements.
It seems like every track is so well thought out, yet none of them feel forced or unnatural.
Talent and passion on this level should get all the recognition and we've definitely got the record on repeat.

You should listen to these tracks: Pretty Shining People, Shotgun, Hold My Girl, Saviour (feat. First Aid Kit)

Video Of The Day: "Paradise" by George Ezra

Hey guys!

2014 was a big year for house in the sand - and it was big for music in general.
We got to watch a lot of UK based acts take over and found a lot of exciting artists.

One of them was George Ezra - the young singer/songwriter with a voice that can turn heads.

I remember having his debut album on repeat for quite a long time and whenever I hear one of his songs nowadays, I keep getting more excited for his upcoming songs.

And I'm sure I'm not alone.

And if you feel just the way I feel - I have good news for you
- he's back!
And boy, he brought some tunes!

Are you ready to hear his brand new track?

His latest single "Paradise" greets us with an upbeat and steady drum beat and an acoustic guitar that goes straight for the dancing shoes.
Of course, George's vocals are still a highlight - the deep and bluesy voice leads us through the verse and surprises us with some high notes in the pre-chorus.

The chants in the verses and middle 8 make the song fun and give it a very carefree vibe which

"Paradise" is that kind of song that will take your Winter blues and put it away.

It's fun, it's upbeat and it's going to make you feel like it's Summer - and let's be real, we're all ready for those warmer days, aren't we?

Well, "Paradise" will take us there for a little less than four minutes, so enjoy the ride.

Video Of The Day: "Don't Matter Now" by George Ezra

Hey guys!

In 2013, parts of the music industry were stunned and surprised by a deep and bluesy voice - coming out of a British singer/songwriter in his early 20s.

Yes, I'm talking about George Ezra, the guy who sang this little tune called "Budapest".
We quickly fell in love with his voice and his charismatic performances and had the best time singing along to his catchy songs.

He's here with a new single now, which we might as well classify as the soundtrack of Summer 2017.
Check it out!

"Don't Matter Now" definitely marches into the cheerfulness of Pop music.
Carried by an uptempo beat, a funky riff and cheery wind instruments - this song allows us all to be carefree.
The fun chants in the verses, you just can't help but sing along - immediately.

It's definitely one of George's catchiest songs to date, yet it still wins you over with a lot of charm. And of course, his bluesy and deep voice.

Hey guys,

I still remember how early last year the world discovered Tom Odell, a young British lad with a voice that got most of us drooling.

Around the same time this year we all did the same again and discovered George Ezra - another young British lad with another voice we can drool over.
The singer/songwriter from Bristol has been around for a little longer though. BBC Bristol started playing his music back in 2012, in 2013 he played at Glastonbury.
And again it was the dudes from BBC who listed George under 'Sound Of 2014' and apparently they were right, once again.

And now George Ezra is here with his debut album 'Wanted On Voyage'.
Is it worth the hype?
Let's find out!
