Day 9: Dan Dietrich | #HITSBC17

Hey guys!

One thing this countdown made me realise, is how many people I got to meet within those five years of blogging.
When I started drafting the lineup, I had about 50 acts I wanted to perform for us.
Unfortunately February only has 28 days, so I had to re-think.

The end result is a mix of artists you've seen before and new acts who haven't been part of any countdown before.

Today's artist has supported us from the very first minute.
The fact that we've been friends for five years now and still get to work together, makes me incredibly happy.

This makes today's performance a super cheerful one.

What is #HITSBC17?
HITSBC17 stands for house in the sand's Birthday Countdown 2017.
Throughout the entire month of February, we are going to celebrate house in the sand's fifth birthday.
(Because why celebrate on one day, if you can celebrate for an entire month, right?)
With the support from some of the finest artists and bands around, each day in February will be filled with an exclusive performance just for us.

Who is performing today?
Dan Dietrich.
He is a singer/songwriter from Darmstadt, Germany.
His sound combines Folk, Rock and Acoustic in a charming and clever way.

Dan has released songs as a solo artist, as well as with his band Dan meets Portland.

His most recent project focuses on the legendary Bob Dylan.
"Dan plays Dylan" is Dan's way of paying his respect to one of his biggest influences - Bob Dylan.
He recorded an EP, went on tour and even released a DVD last year.
Those of you who speak German can check it out on YouTube - links below the video.

What needs to be said about this performance?
It's a Bob Dylan cover!
With his Dan plays Dylan project being such huge success, he decided to play us one of the songs.
Whilst doing such wonderful job with the song, he also wins the award for most exciting instrument on this countdown!

Go ahead and check out Dan Dietrich's cover of Bob Dylan's "License To Kill".

Day 23: Dan Dietrich | #HITSBC15

Hey guys!

You probably already know it but I'm just going to say it again: I'm ridiculously proud of this countdown. The fact that so many incredible acts got involved means a lot to me and I couldn't be happier to be able to present you a month of live music.

What is the Birthday Countdown though? Throughout the entire month of February, one artist/one band a day is going to wish house in the sand a happy birthday and then perform a song exclusively for us.

Today the wonderful Dan Dietrich plays us a song.

Dan Dietrich is a singer/songwriter from Darmstadt, Germany.
His own material could be classified as acoustic/folk-rock and is inspired by artists such as Bob Dylan, Melanie Safka and Tracy Chapman.

So far Dan released a six track EP, played a countless amount of gigs on his own and with bands, he supported Canada's Morgan Finlay and Scotland's Martin and James and built a loyal fan base over the years.

Alright, I still can't believe it but this song has been written for our Birthday Countdown! It doesn't really get into my head how hard Dan worked on his performance of "Our Song" and I'm absolutely happy to have him on the blog.

Many, many thanks to Dan for three years of supporting each other, for amazing gigs and lovely chats. And for this awesome video!

Please go ahead and share this performance with your friends by using the hashtag #HITSBC15.

Gig Impressions: Dan & Julian

Hey guys!

I don't know about you but open air gigs are a must in Summer for me. The atmosphere is just different from indoor gigs, the people are more laid back and even the music sounds different.

Last Saturday I visited my good friend Dan Dietrich to interview him and film a session. As fate would have it he was set to play an open air gig later that day, so of course I was really happy about that.

Before I show you a few photographs from the gig, let me tell you a bit more about Dan.
Dan Dietrich is a singer/songwriter from Darmstadt, Germany. At the age of 15 he started writing his own songs, a year later he started gigging.
He's still carrying on with his music and is also part of the three piece band Dan meets Portland. The folk rock band consists of Dan, Julian Staehle on the drums and bassist Carlos Pereira.

Together with drummer Julian he performed at an intimate open air in Darmstadt.

As you can probably tell it wasn't a totally normal location. The gig was at a beautiful farm with sheep, horses and cows (the best backing vocalists ever by the way!).
The whole set up was absolutely gorgeous as it really fitted the theme; lights everywhere, beautiful lamps, flowers, blankets - oh it was perfect.

And even though it was ridiculously cold for an evening in August, Dan and Julian did a brilliant job. The spot on performance, consisting of originals as well as cover songs, was a real joy to watch.

Thanks to everyone who made this freezing evening such a lovely event. It was a pleasure to be there.

I really hope you enjoyed the photographs. Make sure to check out Dan and his band.
