Behind The Song: "More Than Friends" by ASHS

Hey guys!

Every now and then we stumble upon songs we instantly want to listen to again.
Sometimes we know, even before we've heard it in full, that we're dealing with a massive "hit-to-be" right there.

Unfortunately we don't get to decide the level of popularity a song reaches,
we just get to help it along the way.

So in case you want to help artists out; visit our website for new music aplenty,
stream it, buy it, follow the artists and if you can - go to gigs.

Ready to control the music industry with your voice?
Brilliant, let's do this!

- Behind The Song -
"More Than Friends" by ASHS

ASHS has emerged from Toronto's underground music scene.
She chooses to keep things mysterious, not revealing anything about the person behind the music.

However, the brilliantly arranged and relatable tracks speak from themselves.
It only took one track for us to fall for ASHS' sound - and of course we had to be nosey and invite her to tell us more about this genius of a track.

Here's what ASHS told us about "More Than Friends":

"I wrote "More Than Friends" as a way for me to pull myself out of my typical routine of falling too hard, too fast, for someone who didn't deserve it.
I felt myself catching feelings early on, and realized that he hadn't actually done anything to earn that kind of love from me yet. I pulled back instantly, and decided to put myself first and not get caught up in my emotions.

The writing process for the song was very quick.
Usually, when I'm out doing something, I'll get an idea and just make a quick voice note or jot down some lyrics on my phone, so I went into this session with a verse/concept idea I had written a few days before.
My producer and I started working off of the idea for the vibe I was feeling, and the verse fit in perfectly. That created the momentum and the rest of the song just flowed out.

We wanted to experiment with different vocal fx, so many of the sounds you'll hear in the song are not actually instruments.
"More Than Friends" was one of my first sessions for this project, so the vocal treatment we created on this track has helped me shape my sound as an artist."

Song Of The Day: "Summer Sound" by ROMES

Hey guys!

So, over here we've already had the hottest day of the year and I can honestly say that I'm not excited about such record.

I don't know about you guys, but it's making me want to sit in ice water all day.
But since that is pretty unrealistic, I've decided to take a different approach to the day - I'll try to be optimistic and enjoy the sunshine.
Luckily my inbox always seems to have my back and today it provided the perfect track for those overly sunny days.

So, let's forget about the sweat and let's just dance in the sun.
(Please hydrate though, babies.)

- Song Of The Day -
"Summer Sound" by ROMES

ROMES are a Canadian-Irish four piece based in Toronto, Canada.
Their sound sits somewhere on the lines of Pop and Alternative and always wins you over with its depth.

ROMES are:
Jacob Alexander (vocals)
Nicolas Amadeus (drums)
Andrew Keyes (bass)
James Tebbitt (guitar)

"Summer Sound" is the band's latest single off of their 2017 released self-titled album.

After releasing said album, the band has been busy touring with Mutemath (we caught their NYC show and it was brilliant) and they've kept on growing their loyal fanbase.

Their previous singles "Tryna Be",  "Believe" and "Spend The Night" have all been more than well received and their latest, "Summer Sound", now has the support from 130 stations in Britain which play it regularly.

And once you listen to "Summer Sound", you will know why.

The track is as lively, bouncy and catchy as it could possibly be.
It's practically impossible to sit still and/or have a bad mood when this song is one - it's got this electrifying and carefree vibe to it, which most likely is going to make you dance.

The usage of fun background chants gives the song such a summer-y feeling. Said feeling is supported by the beats and riffs and is carried by the expressive lead vocals.

So, ladies and gentlemen - instead of reading what we have to say, let's just dance to the track, yeah?
3, 2, 1 - go!

Gig Photos: Scenic Route To Alaska at Kellerklub, Stuttgart

Hey guys!

Sometimes people ask me whether I prefer huge arena shows or intimate club gigs.

Well, I love both.
As a photographer I LOVE arena shows - the lighting is great, you've got a photo pit to move around and the energy of having the crowd behind you is thrilling.

But as a fan of music, club gigs are just a tad bit more enjoyable.
There's one venue in Stuttgart which is one of my favourites - Kellerklub.

Now, if you don't understand German, "Keller" stands for basement. And that's exactly where the club is - it's underground.
It just begs for a Rock show and so do I.

Recently two fabulous bands delivered just that and today I'm finally sharing the photos with you.

In case you feel like supporting my photography, come and say hi:

Date: 25th May 2018
Venue: Kellerklub, Stuttgart (GER)

Support Act: daysormay

daysormay are a five-piece from Vernon, B.C. (Canada).
Their sound is a unique and refreshing Alternative sound, allowing the best elements of Pop, Rock and Indie to collide.

daysormay are:
Nolan Bassett (bass, vocals, trumpet)
Eli Garlick (guitar, violin, vocals)
Carson Bassett (drums, percussion)
Craig Matterson (piano, keyboards, vocals)
Aidan Andrews (lead vocals, guitar, keys, ukulele)

No matter how many reviews and comments you read, the band seems to always be able to convince their listeners with ease.
Maybe it's because of their quality tracks, maybe it's because of their energetic live sets.
Probably it's a combination of both.

Headliner: Scenic Route To Alaska

Scenic Route To Alaska are a trio from Edmonton, Canada.
Their sound lies somewhere between Pop, Rock and Indie - but really is too complex to settle for just one genre.

Their live sets are energetic, expressive and watching them perform their relatable tracks is a lot of fun. It's basically that rock gig we all need every now and then.

Scenic Route To Alaska are:
Trevor Mann
Shea Connor
Murray Wood

The band members all met when they were kids and have been (quote) "making noise" together ever since.
With so much time to hone their craft and find their sound, the band has been more than just productive and has managed to release an impressive amount of quality tunes:

EP: Scenic Route to Alaska (2011)
LP: "All These Years" (2012)
LP: "Warrington" (2014)
LP: "Long Walk Home" (2016)
LP: "Tough Luck" (2018)

Whenever they aren't writing and recording, the band is touring the continents and connects with their fans.

Before their show in Stuttgart, we sat down to have a little chat which you can view here.
